Władysław III Spindleshanks (
Polish:
Władysław III Laskonogi;
1165? –
1231) was Duke of the province of
Greater Poland and High Duke of all
Poland, overlord of other Dukes,
1202-
1206 and
1227-
1228, during which periods he also was
Duke of Cracow, the duchy customarily held by the overlord.
Wladyslaw became overlord of Poland in place of his cousin
Leszek the White who was deposed. Wladyslaw then was himself deposed in favor of Leszek from the overlordship. Twenty years late, he succeeded in regaining the throne.
Władysław was the son of
Mieszko III the Old and his successor in their family part-realm of Greater Poland.
